Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is a type of hearing loss, or deafness, in which the root cause lies in the inner ear or the vestibulocochlear nerve. Early hearing loss can cause significant development and emotional problems for children that have long-lasting effects.

Only at the age of 3 Pavel Pimenov has said the first word in his life – “Mama”. The only reason for that is bilateral sensorineural hearing loss.

As it’s known, children with hearing loss, regardless of the degree, face the risk of delays in language skills and learning. However early adequate treatment can enable children with such a problem to acquire age appropriate skills and as a result to feel safe and confident in a world of sound – that’s the words that have helped Pavel’s parents not to sink into despair in such a complicated situation.

“For two years we were doing everything possible to help our son. But our two-year struggle hasn’t yielded any results. It has become obvious that the only way out left is a cochlear implant, that can do the work of the damaged parts of the inner ear (cochlea) to provide sound signals to the brain”.

When the boy received the implant from the government, all members of the family were over the moon. It has seemed that everything is going to work out for the best. With the implant Pavel could understand almost everything, speak and even sing. But just like a thunderbolt from a clear sky the cochlear implant has broken down.

Every day without the speech possessor means first of all the loss of virtually important skills. The boy is going to start school this autumn, but without the ability to understand teachers and communicate with classmates it has become impossible. To grow up normally the boy needs the new speech possessor that costs 10 420 €.
