Diagnosis of the child

congenital heart disorder

A congenital heart defect is a problem with the structure of the heart. It is present at birth. Congenital heart defects are the most common type of birth defect. The defects can involve the walls of the heart, the valves of the heart, and the arteries and veins near the heart.

Many congenital heart defects cause few or no signs and symptoms. They are often not diagnosed until children are older.

Many children with congenital heart defects don’t need treatment, but others do. Treatment can include medicines, catheter procedures, surgery, and heart transplants. The treatment depends on the type of the defect, how severe it is, and a child’s age, size, and general health.

History of the child

Artsiom Reutski has a congenital heart disorder. This disorder is one of the most common types of birth defect. It can disrupt the normal flow of blood through the heart. The blood flow can slow down, go in the wrong direction or to the wrong place, or be blocked completely. But nowadays modern surgical techniques can often restore most or all of the heart’s normal function.

There is no opportunity to perform the necessary operation in Belarus . The only hope of the family is the Heart Centre in Berlin. Doctors are ready to perfom such kind of operation, but the cost is too high — 31 880 EUR.

«Some congenital heart defects in children are simple and don’t need treatment. Other congenital heart defects in children are more complex and may require several surgeries performed over a period of several years. Our son needs your help! We ask all empathic people for support », says the mother.
