Diagnosis of the child

Congenital heart disorder, atrial septal defect

An atrial septal defect is a birth defect of the heart in which there is a hole in the wall (septum) that divides the upper chambers (atria) of the heart. Larger defects cause serious problems, including right-sided heart failure, arrhythmias, increased risk of a stroke, shortened life span. In such cases surgery is necessary.

History of the child

What a wonderful family! – that’s what people say about family Sidarau. No wonder: five lovely children, gorgeous mother and careful father – what can be better?

But there are days, even in life of the happiest families, when everything turns upside down, and you understand that nothing will remain the same. Precisely such a turning point for family Sidarau was the second day of life of their youngest kind, Avianir. The child was diagnosed with congenital heart disorder, atrial septal defect (6mm).

Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a heart defect in which blood flows between the atria (upper chambers) of the heart. A small atrial septal defect (less than 6 mm) may never cause any problems. Larger defects cause serious problems, including right-sided heart failure, heart rhythm abnormalities (arrhythmias), increased risk of a stroke, shortened life span.

However, the defect was never an obstacle for Avianir: the boy has developed normally and at the age of 1 year he took his first steps. It seemed that everything was slowly working out for the best.

But like a thunderbolt from a clear sky Avianir felt worse. After comprehensive medical examination it was found out that atrial septal defect got larger (29 mm). And now Avianir needs a complex surgery, that can be connected with a high risk of complications. Fortunately, specialists from Heart Centre in Berlin offer a high-quality treatment using best innovative technologies. The Operation costs 35 765 USD.

Let’s help Avianir and his family!
