Infective endocarditis (IE) is defined as an infection of the endocardial surface of the heart (see the image below), which may include one or more heart valves, the mural endocardium, or a septal defect. Its intracardiac effects include severe valvular insufficiency, which may lead to intractable congestive heart failure and myocardial abscesses. If left untreated, IE is almost inevitably fatal.

Nikita was very healthy and strong boy, he gained weight, and his physical development didn’t disturb neither doctors, nor parents. However the disease of the kid was a shok: when the boy was one and a half months old, he had a high temperature and a focal pneumonia, as a result — an artificial ventilation of lungs and the whole month of the fight for Nikita’s life.

The diagnosis was unfavourable: infective endocarditis. And also a principal diagnosis: the acquired combined heart disease.

There is no opportunity to perform the necessary operation in Belarus . The only hope of the family is the German cardiological center.
